Lugansk or also known as Luhansk is developed city located in eastern Ukraine. The city became popular due to the iron foundry and has evolved into one of the industrial capitals of Ukraine. The sights reflect the city’s history, culture and arts.

Lugansk as with all the cities in Ukraine, is filled with historical sites and monuments.

There are several Cathedrals spread across the City. The most impressive amongst them is the St Peters Cathedral. It is located in the district of 'Stone Ford ' and was built in the 19th century, St Peters Cathedral survived the Soviet era and at one time was converted into a theatre. It has been fully restored and has alluring architecture.

If you are on a visit then a must see is the Chernobyl Memorial. This memorial was built in the memory of all those who lost their lives due to the horrendous Nuclear reactor tragedy in 1986. This memorial is located in the Red Square which resembles the original in Moscow. “Heroes Square” located on Sovetskaya Street. is another interesting area in the City. The Heroes Square is in honour of the soldiers who lost their lives in the Great Patriotic War ( WWW11). This Square has several life sized monuments that depict the war and the stories that go with it, and while you are in Sovetskaya Street the Gorky Library is a must see sight. The building housing the library itself is a great sight to look at the huge columns and the white façade have an extremely regal and noble appearance.

About 30 kilometres away is the Mergeleva Ridge. This is an archaeological site that is said to have been discovered by a group of students, who were out on an archaeological expedition. A burial site from the Copper age has been discovered here. You can also view the ruins of temples belonging to that era. This site is said to be dated from 4000 B.C. The City is 'served' by a small regional airport with a daily flight to and from Kiev.
