Ukraine Country Guide-Places to see and where to go
Ukraine, whose name means ‘borderland’, is slowly, and sometimes indecisively, shifting. You still frequently encounter the surly, unhelpful bureaucracy that reigned when this was part of the Soviet Union, but now it’s tempered by widespread aspirations to eventually join the EU. Traditionalists, meanwhile are concerned about floating too far out of neighbouring Russia's’s orbit. Meanwhile the country struggles with economic problems.
For the tourist and/or visitor the country offers a yet uncharted destination by the masses! The country is very rich in culture, With many forms of art and architecture visible throughout the country, it is easy to find something of interest no matter where you are.
As an Englishman living here, I do get a little annoyed hearing about people who have visited and spent all their time in Kyiv. Yes Kyiv is the capitol and a wonderful city but I do not think that Kyiv is representative of 'typical'of the country. You need to travel and explore because this is a country that has numerous 'gems' scattered around the country.
Going back to my statement about the country struggling with economic problems and debt, it is a mixture of relief and confusion that they has not 'embraced' tourism
This county is yet virtually undiscovered by the tourist and offers some wonderful natural scenery coupled with beautifully decorated religious buildings and fantastic historical places to see. Combine these with some wonderful clear warm seas and it could be a 'Mecca; for tourists and as many other countries have discovered a 'good source' of foreign currency but again and repeating it is as yet undiscovered and allows the tourist to 'wander around' and discover all that there is on offer! The other large attraction, it is inexpensive compared to many other destinations!
